I have 25 years of experience in the technical and academic support of engineering and applied science laboratory courseware found in higher education. This background includes experience managing people, hardware assets, and facilities for the delivery of high quality technical instruction and positive innovative student motivation initiatives recognized by numerous awards in prior service. As a hands-on working manager I have experience with the development of technical courseware and the delivery of courseware in safety and "practicals" pursuant to non-academic courses. Diverse experience includes the selection, and implementation of instructional instrumentatiion, the designing & fabricating of scientific demonstration apparatus for instruction, and the coordination of facility maintenance and renovation as well as the issues created by clusters of multiple computers platforms, printers and network infrastructure as used in academic and research environments. |

As Temp Electronic Technician I filled the functions of a multi-disciplinary engineering technician deploying new research apparatus, pilot plant equipment, and automated testing apparatus. Watlow is a highly respected manufacturer of electric resistance heaters, controls, and heater system solutions. The Watlow Heater Technology Center HTC represented a consolidated research arm of the manufacturing unit of Watlow Electric of Missouri Inc. My primary duties included but were not limited to the supervision of testing procedures, documentation, facilities, and equipment employed at Watlow's HTC facility located in Fenton Missouri. These functions included destructive and non-destructive testing using ASTM procedures, developing new methodology for testing Watlow finished products, early prototypes, raw materials, and post processed materials, and the design and maintenance of specialized electrical and mechanical testing fixtures. I supervised other team members performing similar tasks, and provided leadership in OSHA safety compliance as a member of the Watlow Global Safety Leadership Team. On my own I pioneered and developed a prototype web driven (HTML 4) documentation deployment system for testing and research procedures. I contributed $6000 in cost savings to the Watlow Corporate initiative, "Save-It", by remarketing scrap industrial equipment and instrumentation via the Internet that would have been otherwise discarded. I authored several technical/safety articles for the internal Watlow newsletter. |

My primary duties involved the supervision of the Electrical Engineering departmental technical instructional and administrative facilities. These duties included but were not limited to design; maintenance, procurement and administrative supervision of technical teaching laboratories, electrical measurement instrumentation, systems, and equipment employed in academic engineering instruction, research, and department administration. On my own I developed courseware enhancements and performed instruction of undergraduate non-credit engineering courses. I provided supervision and coordination of the installation and maintenance of electronic instrumentation, computers, and network infrastructure plant wiring, deployed in teaching facilities, research laboratories, and administrative offices. I directly hired, trained, and supervised a team of 12 or more student work-study students as well as a staff Electronic Technician. On numerous occasions I provided construction management services for various small-scale laboratory and office facility renovation projects under $40K. I pioneered the development and deployment multi linked academic course support and laboratory support web pages using HTML 4 that offered students a method for electronic course support superior to the departmental bulletin board. I also performed the duties of department professional photographer and many of my photos were used in catalogs, brochures, press releases, and other periodic Washington University publications. |
